Dear Sen. Roy Ashburn
Sent: February 08, 2009[Editor's note: The author of this letter has no idea what year he lives in. This letter was sent in 2010.]
Senator Roy Ashburn
State Capitol, Room 3060
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Sen. Roy Ashburn,
I'm guessing a lot of people are going to be demanding you step down. I'm writing to ask you not to. Too often when someone makes a mistake everyone pretends like this person's career has ended. I say as long as the voters are willing to return you to office who cares? Plenty of gay people drive drunk and are still able to keep decent jobs. I don't see a reason why you should be any different!
Keep up the good fight and don't let the bastards get you down!
Sincerely,
Christopher L. Jorgensen
p.s. anyway I can get an autographed photo?

Senator Roy Ashburn
Dear Christopher,
Thank you very much for taking time to write. Your words of encouragement are greatly appreciated.
I’m happy to send the photo you requested.
All the best,
Roy
My reaction:
Occasionally I write a letter where the response makes me feel bad. Not bad enough to leave it unposted mind you, but still bad. This is one of those letters.
I had no idea what to do with this one. I thought, “Fuck, I don’t know. Do I bury it, post it and mock, post it and write about how cool he is, or what?” So I then I thought, “Get a conservative to tell me!” This is where @PottyMouthCon comes in. I gave it to him as a guest post, decided to let him do the commentary. No liberal guilt this way. (I know, usual liberal cop out.)
Anyway, I wrote the above letter to Senator Roy Ashburn (CA) after he got popped driving drunk leaving a gay bar.
Just to be clear, I think State and Federal government needs more gay people and less drunk drivers.
