Luxor Hotel and Casino
3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV 89119

Dear Luxor,

I am including a $5 chip that I inadvertently forgot to cash in while I was in Las Vegas. I don't think there will be any tax implications for either of us if you just send me a check to the above address, but if there is, can you please include whatever form I need to fill out?

I realize $5 isn't a lot of money to most people, but it is to me, so I hope whoever opens this letter is honest and doesn't just take my chip!

Sincerely,

Christopher L. Jorgensen

[handwritten] enc. 1 red $ chip.

My reaction:

I used to play poker more than I do now. A friend of mine got me a chip as a souvenir when he was in Vegas. I used this as a “card protector” for a long time. In fact, several friends did this for me. I have a handful of these things. But while it’s not as bad financially as I make it seem in this letter, I did think, “I’d rather have the cash than this lame chip.” So off it went.

I was expecting and admonishment about how chips aren’t to be taken out of the casino, or that they couldn’t send me a check due to state laws, or the chip was expired, or something. Last thing I figured I’d get was a check. I’m also surprised they didn’t take the $0.44 postage out of my “winnings.”

Oh, and for the record, I’ve never been to Vegas.
